Magic Spa Academy is guided by Louise’s wish to uplift and empower the women of South Africa. The Academy provides a more complete education compared to other institutions, and nurtures in every student the skills necessary to become successful in the beauty industry. We are staffed by teachers, lecturers, and therapists hand picked by Louise, with the same ideals and goals for a new generation of skilled beauty professionals.
Louise Lai is indigenous Amis from the island of Taiwan and is proud of her heritage. Amis culture is matrilineal, so in the lands of her ancestors, women are the heads of the household and not the men. Her strong feminine cultural identity has always guided her, in Taiwan and South Africa.
Louise has worked and taught in the beauty industry of Taiwan and South Africa for over 24 years. She studied at Taiwan Matinform health care management Centre, where she also worked as a therapist, manager and beauty consultant. Thereafter, owning and operating her business, developed her innate business acumen and entrepreneurship.
Always seeking new opportunities for success and learning through experience, she decided to come to South Africa in 2012, after successfully applying for a position as spa manager at Spaesthetique Hair and Body. Her professionalism, charm and love for therapy was instrumental in making Spaesthetique successful for over 6 years.
She realised that therapists in South Africa were not being trained or educated in the same way that she was. So she began teaching local women working at the spa. Even though English is not her first language, she taught East Asian massage techniques, retail skills, spa protocols, business management and product training. In 2018 she joined Magic Spa group and it was here that her idea for a beauty academy became a reality.
